A Skull for all Seasons – Alexander McQueen’s Jewellery
If there’s one iconic image from Alexander McQueen’s designs that is sure to endure with fashion fans for years to come it’s his unmistakable skull imagery. Seen splattered across scarves and, most notably, McQueen’s jewellery, the skull image can go with a range of styles: from preppy and sweet to grungy and punk, this is a skull that knows no boundaries!
When it comes to jewellery, the skull is most often seen out and about fused to the top of a ring. The skull has seen a number of redesigns that have translated onto the rings, with the “punk” skull coming studded with gemstones across its teeth and in its eye sockets. The dagger skull features a winged sword impaled through the top of the skull with a shimmering chain gathered around its base: the eye sockets, once again, come with gemstones set in. The mini skull and cherry blossom style makes for quite an eye catching ring – built up with butterfly and cherry blossom detailing, the skull rests upon the top of a fabulous mound of imitation tree leaves that makes it hard to miss.
If you want something a little more rock and roll, the twin skull rings are hard to beat. This ring comes in a number of styles, ranging from just two heads faced in opposite direction, to a stunning spiral, snake-like design. Available in brushed metal or gold-tone brass, the twin skull ring is one of the most sought after of the Alexander McQueen rings.
